The importance of recognition…

One thing which I absolutely love about start-up culture is that every employee is invaluable. And every employee is recognized for their contributions in moving the company forward.

Take for example the folks at @BNotions, a technology company in Toronto. Whenever a person walks into their offices they are greeted with the entire team clapping and welcoming you to their humble abode. The same reaction applies to strangers and employees. This sense of recognition, that everyone matters, is important and rooted in their corporate culture.

I wish the corporate world took these kinds of steps to recognize and acknowledge to each of their employee on a regular basis that they matter. Some companies do this consistently, others do not. There are plenty of lessons that large corporations can learn from start-ups. This being one of them.
