In the book The New How, Nilofer Merchant writes about the process of Murder Boarding, which is an absolutely fascinating process to help any organization strategize and select ideas to build and develop products / services. In order to strategize and select the right idea there are several people and activities involved, but one thing is key:
“It takes strength to be open to new ideas. It takes courage to rethin ideas that you may have already invested in, or to sign on to a truly powerful new idea.”
Furthermore, one of several key points she highlights in “Selecting a Winning Strategy” is to:
“Set the ground rules. Since this process is about the best idea winning, people should agree to let go of personal ownership of ideas, political games, or wishint-it-were-true. Enter the exercise with an honest intellect and clear vision. Be empowered and courageous to ask tough, realistic questions.”
Only then will you truly be able to select a winning strategy.
